Typically, samples are taken via nasopharyngeal or oral swab. Vertical villus arrangement of fibers increases specimen collection and removal into the transport media. The swab features a breakpoint that allows you to safely and easily break off the stick and release the swab into the transport media. The viral transport medium (VTM) is a preservation solution that immediately inactivates the virus in order to avoid secondary infection. A nucleic acid protectant projects the viral nucleic acid from degradation, at room temperature (15-30 degrees Celsius) for up to 72 hours.
